The Energi Simulation IAP on Carbon Utilization and Storage held its 3rd Annual Meeting at The University of Texas at Austin from May 23-24, 2024. Sixteen reports were presented, including experimental and numerical modeling studies on topics such as nanobubble and formate/CO2 for EOR/CCS, CO2 mineralization, CO2/water wettability alteration, CO2 capture as bicarbonate, economic analysis of CO2 utilization, pipeline design, and hydrogen storage.

Tesleem (PhD student), Hao (PhD student), Abouzar (Research Assistant Professor), and Dr. Okuno presented three papers at SPE IOR in Tulsa, April 23 – 25, 2024.
1. Aqueous Ketone Solution for Wettability Alteration in High-salinity-high-temperature Carbonate Reservoirs
2. Aqueous Nanobubble Dispersion of CO2 for Enhanced Oil Recovery - Coreflooding and Huff-n-puff Experiments
3. Techno-Economic-Environmental Analysis of CO2 Storage and EOR in an Underdeveloped Field

Hao Wang (PhD student), Omar Carrasco-Jaim (Postdoc), and Dr. Okuno presented a poster on CO2 mineralization under Theme 5: EOR, Injection, and Utilization at CCUS 2024 in Houston, March 11 – 13, 2024.

Hassan (PhD student) and Dr. Okuno presented a paper on DME-steam Co-injection at the 2024 SPE Canadian Energy Technology Conference in Calgary, March 13 - 14, 2024.

Dr. Okuno presented his current research on modeling aqueous nanobubble dispersion at 2023 SPE ATCE in San Antonio, TX. It was scheduled for Tuesday, October 17, 2023 in Room 217 B as part of "Session 30 Reservoir Simulation and Characterization."

Our Ph.D student O.P. Oyenowo presented at the SPE International Conference on Oilfield Chemistry 2023.
