Postdoctoral Fellow

Omar Ali Carrasco Jaim, Ph.D.

Biography

Omar joined The McKetta Department of Chemical Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin as Postdoctoral Researcher in November 2020 under the supervision of Dr. Charles Buddie Mullins. In 2021, he started collaborative work within the Center for Subsurface Energy and the Environment in Dr. Ryosuke Okuno’s research group.

His research focuses on developing active materials for energy conversion through photocatalysis and electrocatalysis, in particular structural and electronic modification for an efficient hydrogen production from water splitting and carbon dioxide conversion into chemicals and fuels. In addition, he is working on alternative carbon capture technologies to be integrated with electrochemical conversion processes.

Omar was awarded with the ConTex Postdoctoral Fellowship 2020, a joint initiative of The University of Texas System and Mexico's CONACYT (The National Council for Science and Technology) that supports academic and research collaborations between Texas and Mexico.

Prior joining UT Austin, he actively worked in the Ecomaterials and Energy Department at Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon, where he participated in research projects with national universities and the local industrial sector.

Research Area

  • Advanced materials for renewable energy conversion.

  • Water splitting for hydrogen production.

  • Carbon capture and conversion.
