Postdoctoral Fellow

Daniel Fuentes Ibarra, Ph.D.

Biography

Daniel is a postdoctoral fellow in the Hildebrand Department of Petroleum and Geosystems Engineering at UT Austin. He obtained his Ph.D. degree from the Mexican Petroleum Institute. He has collaborated with Professor Ryosuke Okuno since 2024 on reservoir numerical simulation, enhanced oil recovery processes, EOS modeling, as well as carbon capture utilization and storage. His expertise lies in the mathematical modeling of thermal compositional fluid flow within porous media.

His professional experience encompasses not only industrial roles, such as a reservoir engineer at Petroleum Rock and Fluids Services, but also research positions, including a project internship at the Mexican Petroleum Institute. Additionally, he brings experience as a professor at the National Polytechnic Institute, where teaching courses on reservoir numerical simulation and well test analysis. Furthermore, he has served as the thesis director for one M.S. degree student and contributed as a peer reviewer for a scientific journal.

Research Area

  • Reservoir Simulation

  • Enhanced Oil Recovery
